New Products from Westminster Pharmaceuticals

Dapsone

Dapsone, the latest addition to Westminster Pharmaceuticals' roster, is a primary treatment option for those with Dermatitis herpetiformis, a chronic skin condition caused by gluten sensitivity, commonly known as celiac disease. It also serves as an antibacterial drug for susceptible cases of leprosy (Hansen’s disease). An anti-infective drug known as a sulfone, Dapsone is available as a prescription in tablets of 25 or 100mg for oral use.

Trending Products for Allergy Season

More than 100 million people in the US experience allergies every year, making them the sixth leading cause of chronic illness in the country. Of that group, around 81 million people were diagnosed with seasonal allergic rhinitis, an allergic reaction to pollen from plants like trees, weeds, and grasses that tends to spike in the spring and fall when pollen in the air is at a higher concentration. That’s nearly 26% of adults and 19% of children suffering from this seasonal health issue.

When allergy season rolls around, the use of generic medications that can treat the side effects of seasonal allergies trends upward. Learn more about two of the most in-demand generic medications Westminster Pharmaceuticals offers for those suffering from seasonal allergies:

Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride

Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride is a histamine H1-receptor antagonist indicated to treat uncomplicated skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria (chronic hives) in adults and children 6 and up. Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride efficacy lies in its ability to block the action of histamine, a key player in triggering allergic reactions, at the H1 receptor. Available in immediate-release tablet form of 5mg, Levocetirizine offers a simple yet potent solution to combat seasonal allergies affecting the skin.

Montelukast Sodium

Montelukast Sodium is another popular choice in the face of trending seasonal allergies. The medication is indicated to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis and perennial allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, runny nose, wheezing, or itching in patients 15 years of age and older. It is also indicated to prophylactically treat chronic asthma or to prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) in patients 15 and up. While Montelukast can be used to treat and prevent asthma, decreasing the symptoms and number of acute asthma attacks, it should not be used to relieve an asthma attack that is already occurring.

Montelukast's mechanism of action involves targeting leukotrienes, inflammatory mediators responsible for triggering allergic responses in the respiratory tract. By blocking the effects of leukotrienes, Montelukast effectively reduces airway inflammation and constriction, fostering improved respiratory function and improved overall quality of life.

Montelukast is available for Westminster Pharmaceuticals partners to purchase in 10 mg tablets.
