Behind the Scenes: Generic Pharmaceuticals and Quality Assurance

With the increasing competition and growing demand for quality drugs, it’s crucial that generics manufacturers meet the standards of safety and efficacy in the production and distribution of their medications. This is where quality assurance comes into play.

Westminster Pharmaceuticals prioritizes quality assurance to ensure the medications we provide are both safe and effective for those who take them. Learn more about the key tenets of quality assurance in generic drug manufacturing and how Westminster Pharmaceuticals maintains superior quality assurance in all we do.

What Is Quality Assurance?

In the world of generic drug manufacturing, ensuring the highest quality standards is not just a goal but a responsibility. Quality assurance (QA), also known as quality control (QC) is the linchpin that holds our processes together, guaranteeing that every medication bearing the Westminster Pharmaceuticals name meets or exceeds industry benchmarks. It’s a key part of pharmacovigilance that focuses on the safety and quality of our entire portfolio of generics.

Quality assurance objectives include:

  • Ensuring product quality and safety, with a focus on the people taking the products and any potential impact on their health

  • Maintaining integrity and a respected reputation

  • Improving efficiency while maintaining product quality

  • Guaranteeing compliance

State-of-the-Art Facilities

Quality assurance is most effective when manufacturing facilities are designed with quality and safety in mind from the very beginning. Having production facilities that meet or exceed the latest standards for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is a must for producing high-quality generic drugs.

Warehouses and distribution facilities should also be top-of-the-line, like our 3PL partner, Direct Customer Solutions (formerly R&S Solutions). DCS’ state-of-the-art fulfillment and distribution center is equipped with the latest robotic technology, refrigeration, and enhanced security vault, ensuring the utmost care, safety, and consistency of all our products as they make their way through the supply chain.

Our Skilled Team of Experts

Behind every medication we produce is a small but mighty team of dedicated professionals committed to upholding the highest standards. At Westminster Pharmaceuticals, our quality assurance initiatives are led by Olga Sanchez, RN MSN. Olga’s experience as a tenured medical professional with the unique perspective of a nursing background is a sharp advantage that sets us apart from other competitors. Her decades of working directly with patients, doctors, and medications and her familiarity with where common errors may occur with medicines provide us with invaluable insight to ensure we provide only the highest-quality, most consistent, and safest products possible.

Additionally, our small team is an asset to customers who may need assistance in addressing any concerns. All quality assurance questions are answered directly by either Olga herself or Victoria Turner, our Quality Associate and Customer Service Specialist, who is also a licensed and certified pharmacy technician.

Our customers receive dedicated care from someone they can become familiar with, not a call center operator, which helps to build trust and strengthen two-way communication. If we miss a call, we call back within hours, not days. Westminster Pharmaceuticals customers know they can always reach out and have their inquiries or concerns addressed promptly with personalized attention.

Regulatory Compliance

At Westminster Pharmaceuticals, we recognize the importance of regulatory compliance in safeguarding public health. We work hand-in-hand with regulatory bodies to ensure that our manufacturing processes comply with international standards. Regular audits and inspections are conducted to verify our adherence to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and other regulatory requirements.

Additionally, we hold an annual cGMP training with our team to review the most up-to-date laws and regulations that healthcare manufacturers must follow when producing drugs. Though these GMPs are required by the FDA, we also use them as tools to continually better our products, operations, and company as a whole.

Continuous Improvement Initiatives

Quality assurance is not a static process, it's a dynamic commitment to constant improvement. We regularly review and update our quality systems to ensure that our products remain at the forefront of quality and innovation.

We remain in communication with customers who may have inquiries about medications, always reporting any adverse effects to the FDA, which maintains this information nationally to determine further action, such as whether a recall may be necessary.

We also communicate regularly with our manufacturing, wholesale, distribution, and pharmacy partners to gather feedback in order to optimize operations, maintain our high-quality standards, and improve the patient experience.

Above and Beyond Quality Standards

Westminster Pharmaceuticals is driven by an unwavering commitment to quality. Our dedication to rigorous quality assurance as part of our superior pharmacovigilance practices ensures that each medication leaving our facilities is a testament to our pledge to improve the health and well-being of communities worldwide. We strive to go above and beyond industry standards for quality assurance, giving consumers and patients the peace of mind that their medications are safe, consistent, and effective.
